Rolled up on this almost very shortly after it happened. I, along with other motorists, checked the car for occupants but they were no where to he seen. Homeowner said they saw someone running up the road, which was verified by another motorists who claimed to have almost hit someone running up the middle of the road. Accident was reported to authorities. Car was leaking the most gasoline ive ever seen leak during a car accident. It was pouring into the passenger compartment inside, im guessing the bit where the fuel pump and filter goes in got dislodged and was pouring out fuel.
Edit: accident review. Driver went left of center in a right hand bend. Jerked the wheel hard to the right inducing over steer off the road to the inside of the corner.

Guessing there were illicit substances involved. Just a hunch.
I’ve found crazy stuff in my front yard (dirty diapers, pill bottles, hubs) , including tracks where someone missed the road entirely, but thankfully never an overturned car.

Maybe the occupants really wanted to Escape the scene of the accident?

LOL I think it’s hilarious that it ended up under the littering sign.

I was just looking into the anti-siphon device in my 2008 Acura TSX and it turns out what we think of as anti-siphon devices is now more of a device to prevent fuel from leaking if a car rolls over. I was able to easily siphon gas out using a 1/4" (OD) polyethylene tube with the end cut into an a tapering angle over the last inch of length. Allows it to slip right past the roll over device. Takes about 10 mins gallon though. Still better than going to a gas station. In NJ they are all full service and I don’t want to interact with anyone. If I need gas in the next couple of months I was thinking of leaving a credit card in fuel tank door and holding up a loony toon’s type sign asking the attendant to fill it up premium, card in fuel door.

Wait, are saying you would seriously siphon peoples tanks rather than go to the gas station? If you are that worried wear a bio hazard suit.

Could be...they said only one person running from the car though, so...

Someone made the same mistake on my street and ended up in the pasture across from my house yesterday morning. PT Cruiser that went end over end “too many times” according to one witness. I was sitting in bed and heard at least five crunches before I bolted outside. It’s a very distinct sound .
Thankfully the young woman, who was no wearing a seat belt but somehow was not ejected, walked away. Cuts and scrapes but I reckon she went off of the road doing at least 45-50. It’s a 55 mph country road that people typically run at least 65 down. L ong left hand sweeper that typically claims about a car a year. Pretty amazing that she was alright and an off duty fireman was the third car to stop. He calmed her down and asked her the basic info questions like what day is it, what is your name, what month is it, etc. and she answered everything correctly and quickly. Wild.

Hmm, I could do this with mine, replace the ice scraper or sit the card behind it.

What happens when your gas door is frozen shut?

I don’t know, it’s never happened to me . It is a push in, pop out one so shouldn’t be an issue. I don’t know of any Skoda owners on the Skoda forum that live in northern Europe such as Sweden, Norway, etc... or out east in Poland, Romania, Czechia, etc... have had any issues either.

Haha, no not other people’s. I have three cars (storing one for a relative) all with a good amount of gas that will eventually go bad. I figure it is easier and safer to siphon out a little so I can mow my lawn then take a trip to the gas station. There is no option for self service so you need to interact with an attendant.

I worked in construction for a number of years and still have a 3m full face respirator. I use it all the time for work around the house or rattle canning (using organic vapor cartridges ). Would be odd to donate used equipment so I would probably keep it and use it to go grocery shopping. I did donate the N95 masks I had to my neighbor who is a nurse.
